Brazilian Arrested at Bali Airport with 3kg of Cocaine

Details of the Arrest
The arrest took place upon YB’s arrival on an Emirates flight from Dubai. Customs officials noticed suspicious materials during X-ray screening. A further inspection revealed 3,089 grams of cocaine hidden in the lining of his suitcase and backpack.
Financial Motive and Network
YB claimed he had been recruited by a man in Brazil known as "Tio Paulo" and was promised a payment of Rp 400 million (~US$23,000). He had also received a US$500 advance. The operation failed when the local contact in Bali did not appear to collect the drugs during a planned sting operation.
Legal Consequences
Authorities charged YB under Indonesia’s strict narcotics laws, specifically Articles 112(2) and 113(2) of Law No. 35/2009. He faces a minimum sentence of 5 years and could receive up to 15 years—or more—depending on how the court rules.

Context and Warnings
This incident underscores how Bali has become a target hub for South American drug networks, according to officials from Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN). Authorities urge foreign nationals not to engage in courier activities due to Indonesia’s zero-tolerance drug policy.
